Solid Crafts is all about fairness. Not only do we want to empower our workers, we know we also have to take care of our planet. Since our international cooperation makes it impossible to produce entirely without Co2 emissions, we have to take up responsibility.
By 2025 Solid wants to achieve carbon neutral shipping. Our goal is to ship 100% of our products by boat. However, sea transport also has an environmental impact we cannot avoid. These emissions will be compensated through carbon offsetting. In brief: if we really, really cannot reduce any more emissions in our own value chain, then why not compensate for these emissions elsewhere? What's more, since 2020, Solid is offsetting current flight emissions, for our own products, as a first step towards this goal.
Solid found a great partner in Nula Carbon, a climate action platform working to make carbon offsetting accessible for individuals and small businesses, to kick start their climate action journey. Nula Carbon wants to make a difference in the Kasigau Corridor, a strip of land that connects the Tsavo East National Park with the Tsavo West National Park. This region, where the Hadithi project is also located, was under threat of deforestation. As rainfall is very low in this region, making a living was extremely challenging. The link with the Hadithi project is therefore essential, providing an income for many families.
The Kasigau corridor is of essential importance to all wildlife living in the area, being a corridor for migration. Thanks to our contribution and that of many others, Nula Carbon works with the local communities, supporting women, training rangers and educating people, to protect biodiversity in the region. All while keeping carbon where it is supposed to be; in the trees and in the soil.
The information Nula Carbon calculates for our shipping, is also shared with our selected customers. In this way we are able to act together for a greener and more ecologically just planet, for future generations to profit from. Let’s take up the task of climate action together!
